How Businesses Benefit From RFID Key Cards

By Brenda Warner

The latest in locking technology is on the market and quickly becoming the standard among the industry. Hotel chains especially have benefited from this new technology and reaping the rewards of it. That technology is the use of RFID key cards, a new type of locking system for businesses that provides a higher level of security.

RFID stands for radio frequency identification. This type of technology is different from the magnetic stripe key cards and computer chip cards on the market, they are quickly fading in the background in the wake of RFID technology. The advantages of using the newer locking system are many.

They offer more security at a fraction of the cost. Hotels that are transitioning to this modern wonder are experiencing cost savings that would have been unknown to them had this not been developed. The system uses radio frequencies to communicate with the locking device and the card key only has to be in proximity to it, not touching it. There is no swipe or insertion of any card in order to operate the lock.

The radio frequency that is encoded will match and the lock disengages upon successful presentation of the card key. This is refined keyless entry at its best. There is no physical contact with the lock which saves on wear and tear of the mechanism. Also, there are no issues with the card being unreadable as with magnetic and computer chip card readers.

Those who enjoy staying at hotels on their vacations or business can feel certain that their room is secure when they leave. It gives a certain confidence in the hotel chain that provides this service, and the keyless entry often creates repeat business as the customers return again and again. The uniqueness of the keyless entry is a wonder to hotel guests who seem to like using the latest technology.

Many businesses and industries are in the process of upgrading their lock systems to RFID technology. This is quickly becoming the norm among hotels and other types of business that require a higher level of security. It is also quickly gaining acceptance due to the positive impact it has on profits. This may very well be the answer to keyless entry.

Businesses are benefiting in a big way as they use this method to save money, time and maintenance costs. There is very little maintenance with keyless entry because the locks are not touched with human hands or by any standard keyed entry method. In this way, a company can save money, and the cost of replacing locks becomes obsolete.

Technology is always progressing toward better and more refined ways of doing things. As society and business quickly adapt to newer technologies, there is always something better that comes along to replace the standard methods. As a business grows and develops over time, RFID technology is paving the way for more security on a budget, and this spells profits for businesses everywhere.
